Do you have questions about how to register your child for Dutch-speaking education in Brussels?

Information sessions about nursery and primary education

During an information session you receive information about the registration procedure in nursery and primary education. These sessions are in Dutch and took place online via Teams on 05.02.2024 and 08.02.2024.

Information sessions about the 1st year of secondary education

During an information session you receive information about the registration procedure in the 1st year A and B of secondary education. These sessions are in Dutch and take place online via Teams.

What is LOP Brussel?

LOP Brussel (a local consultation platform for equal opportunities in education in Brussels) is a partnership between all Dutch-speaking schools in Brussels and local organisations. LOP Brussel makes agreements relating to equal educational opportunities for all pupils in Dutch-speaking education in Brussels. There is a LOP Brussel for elementary education (LOP Brussel Basisonderwijs) and a LOP Brussel for secondary education (LOP Brussel Secundair Onderwijs). More information about LOP (in Dutch):

Complaints and other questions

Questions after refusal

Was your child refused because there were no places available in the school ('refusal based on capacity')? Then you can contact LOP Brussel. They will inform you of the various possibilities.

General questions about the proper conduct of the allocation procedure

Do you have questions about your child's allocation? Then you can also contact LOP Brussel. LOP Brussel will give you more information about the outcome of your child's application.

What can I contact the 'Ombudsdienst Inschrijvingen' for?

In your opinion, did technical errors or mere mistakes occur in, before or during your child's allocation? Then you can contact the Ombudsdienst Inschrijvingen (Registration Ombuds Service). From the moment you detect an error, you have 15 calendar days to report it.

You can also contact the Ombudsdienst Inschrijvingen  with questions about an exceptional situation of a pupil to be registered in a specific school. The following conditions apply:

  • the exceptional situation only applies to the pupil concerned in that specific school;
  • registration in that school is the only possibility to guarantee access to education.

What can I contact the 'Commissie Leerlingenrechten' for?

You can file a complaint with the Commissie Leerlingenrechten (Pupils' Rights Commission). Please note: A complaint is only relevant if a school refused your child and then registered another child in the same class or year.

From the moment you detect a possible error, you have 30 calendar days to file a complaint with the Commissie Leerlingenrechten. You must submit your complaint in writing and sign it.
