How to register?

In advance: siblings and children of staff

Siblings of pupils and children of staff register before all other children. Go to the school from 1 to 15 March 2023 and register your child.

No place or forgot to register? In a school without an application procedure, you can still apply along with all the other children. In this case, you no longer have priority. More information about priority

Step 1: Prepare

After the siblings and children of staff, all other children can register. Go to the school to register your child. Prepare your registration well:

  1. Get to know the schools. Each school offers a number of specific types and forms of special education (in Dutch). Inquire with the school's management team or care coordinator. The CLB will also help you with this.
  2. Inform yourself about the procedure: read the brochure (available in 8 languages) or the information on this website carefully.
  3. Check if your child has priority
  4. Gather the necessary documents

Step 2: Register your child

To register your child in a BuSO school without an application procedure, register directly with the school. You do not need to apply for a place for your child first.

Go to the school and register your child. There are two registration periods:

  • from 27 March to 21 April 2023: during this period, pupils with at least one Dutch-speaking parent are given priority.
  • from 24 April to 8 May 2023: during this period, pupils from the special elementary school in the same campus will be given priority.

More information about which groups have priority

Please note that your registration is not final until your child meets the admission requirements at the start of the school year. You should therefore provide the school with the special educational needs report as soon as possible. Contact your CLB (pupil guidance centre) for this purpose.

What if you did not get a place?

Does the school not have any available places left? Then ask for a document of unsuccessful registration. Your child will then be placed on the waiting list. The school will contact you when a place opens up.

You can also register your child during the open registration period in the schools that still have places available. The open registration period starts on 11 May 2023 at 9 a.m. Please note: Registration takes place in chronological order. So whoever comes first gets a place first. Moreover, no priority applies anymore.

Contact the school where you want to register your child. Are there places available? Register your child. Are there no places available? You can also have your child placed on the waiting list during this period. To do so, ask for a document of unsuccessful registration. The school will contact you if a place opens up.
