Have you applied for a place for your child and do you want to register them in a school? On this page you will find information about:
How do you register after applying for a place?
A few weeks after applying, you will receive an allocation notice. This states whether your child has a place or not. There are three possibilities:

1. Your child has a place in the school of your 1st choice
Go to the school and register your child. Do so in the appropriate time period:
- nursery and primary education: from 24 April to 15 May 2023
- 1st year of secondary education: from 16 May to 12 June 2023
- special elementary education: from 15 May to 7 June 2023
- special secondary education: from 17 April to 8 May 2023
Otherwise, you will lose the place reserved for you.
Your child is not on the waiting list of lower ranked schools (second, third, etc.) The application will lapse in those schools: you can no longer claim a place in those schools based on the application. However, you can still register your child during the open registration period if there are still places available.
Please note that in the first year of secondary and special needs secondary education, the same is true for siblings and children of staff. For example: your first choice of school is one where you do not have priority as a sibling or child of staff. Your second choice is a school where you do have this priority. Your child will be placed in the first school. Therefore, your application will lapse in your second choice of school, even if you had priority for an application there.
2. Your child has a place in the school of your 2nd, 3rd, 4th … choice
Your child is also automatically on the waiting list of the higher ranked schools. For example: your child gets a place in the school of your third choice. Then your child is also on the waiting list of the schools of your first and second choice, but not on the waiting list of the schools of your fourth and fifth choice. The school will contact you if a place opens up.
Your child is not on the waiting list of the lower ranked schools (third, fourth, etc.) The application expires in those schools: you can no longer claim a place in those schools based on the application. However, you can still register your child during the open registration period if there are still places available.
Please note that in the first year of secondary and special needs secondary education, the same is true for siblings and children of staff. For example: your first and second choice of school are ones where you do not have priority as a sibling or child of staff. Your third choice is a school where you do have this priority. Your child will be placed in the second school. You will be on the waiting list for the first school, but your application will lapse in your third choice of school, even if you had priority for an application there.

3. Your child does not have a place
Did you apply for a place for your child, but did you not get one? Your child is automatically placed on the waiting list of the schools you chose when you applied. You do not need to do anything. The school will contact you if a place opens up. More information about the waiting list.
You can also still register your child during the open registration period. Learn more about what you can do if your child does not have a place.
What if you did not get a place?
Did you apply for a place for your child, but did you not get one? Or did you not apply for a place for your child? Then you can register your child in a school that still has places available, during the open registration period:
- nursery and primary education: from 23 May 2023 (9 a.m.)
- 1st year of secondary education: from 16 May 2023 (9 a.m.)
- higher years of secondary education: from 30 May (9 a.m.)
- special elementary education with an application procedure: from 8 June 2023
- special elementary education without an application procedure: from 20 March 2023
- special secondary education (with and without an application procedure): from 11 May 2023 (9 a.m.)
Please note: In this period, registration takes place in chronological order. So whoever comes first gets a place first. No priority applies anymore.
Contact the school where you want to register your child. Are there places available? Register your child. Are there no places available? You can also have your child placed on the waiting list during this period. To do so, ask for a document of unsuccessful registration. The school will contact you if a place opens up. More information about the waiting list.
What if you are on a waiting list?
You are on the waiting list if you have received a document of unsuccessful registration from the school. The document of unsuccessful registration states your child's position on the waiting list. The school will contact you if a place opens up. The waiting list is valid until 6 October 2023. Until then, a school is obliged to respect the order of the waiting list.
For children born in 2021, the waiting list is valid until 30 June 2024. Is your child on the waiting list for the pre-school entry class but did you not get a place before February 2023? Then reapply your child for the next school year (2024-2025). If a place does become available during the current school year, the school will contact you.

What if you register your child in different schools?
If you register your child in different schools, each new registration in a school will cancel the previous registration in the other school. This only applies to registration in the same year and study programme or form of education for the same school year.
